Some Amish families that had settled previously in Lee County moved near Pulaski in the 1850s along with families from Canada, Ohio, and Indiana. By 1860 almost fifty Amish families had purchased land in Davis County but had no church because they did not have a minister. The coming of the Civil War expedited the matter of church organization because the elders wanted to aid their young men in securing exemptions from military service. They invited Elder Jacob Swartzendruber of Johnson County to assist them.
This group remained unchanged for almost three years; then in the spring of 1974 several additional Old Order families from Milton and from Clark, Missouri, joined the settlement.
