94 His argument was that the legitimacy of the American colonies was premised on the extension of British law and the sovereignty of the British parliament throughout its Empire. What is more, their armed rebellion not only threatened the stability of Britain’s Empire, but also incurred the likelihood of a violent armed response from Britain.
